Session 59 - Demons, Demons everywhere.

The party delves deeper, finding a slave pen and lots and lots of demons.

This write up is based on our Sunday, November 2, 2025 session. Our scribe Carl was out sick, so I put some text together with our mapper Jimmy's screen shots. Since we are scattered around the country, we use Discord for voice communications and the Roll20 online tabletop to connect with each other.

T
here was a large chamber ahead of us with at least two demons in it. Beneddar sent his charmed Hellbender ahead to cause a distraction as he had done in the previous room.

It caused less of a distraction than expected. The demons waved it through with nonchalant claws like it happened every day, perhaps it did.

By the time he realized what happened, Beneddar had lost control of the creature. It was going to be pissed when the charm wore off in about 20 minutes.

With morning approaching and little time left before our presence is discovered, Aefir and Shadow charged up the hall and attacked. There were a lot more demons than we expected, as well as a priest in a frog mask. We identified one of the demons as a Kytha, very tough, but beatable.

After beating the demons and priest, we found the pit was full of slaves, a mixture of humans, gnomes and bullywugs. They were panicked and cowering inside caves in the walls of the pit which had a spiral ramp going down to a pool in the bottom.

Not all of the demons were accounted for at the end of the battle. When Aefir asked which way the demons went, the slaves pointed down both tunnels.

Aefir picked the eastern tunnel and no one had any better ideas, so the rest followed.

The tunnel came to a waterfall.  There was what looked like torchlight and echoing voices coming from above where the water was coming from. The water was dropping into a shallow pool that drained down the passage on the right. The water had the same Alchemical smell as the water in the mummies' tomb.

There was a dry passage straight ahead.

The dry passage lead to a room with bones scattered on the floor and a couple of demons perched on a ledge on the far wall. The smell of old excrement and rotting flesh wafted out of the chamber.

The room was narrow at the base but widened at the top, with numerous ledges at various heights on the walls, up to the ceiling more than 30 feet above the floor. We discovered there were more than a couple of demons in there, it turned out that there were 20 in all of the bug-like things.

To our surprise, they could teleport, and were soon behind our lines. Paraselene cast spirit guardians and Beneddar cast synaptic static, which seemed to take a lot of them down. It was a tough battle, even Lenrall got in to it, throwing a dagger and killing an injured demon.

Eventually, they were all killed except for one that ran away. Aefir caught up with it as it was engaged in some kind of argument with a troll. The troll apparently would not let it pass into the next room.

Aefir finished it off from behind and then Reebo shot at the troll and missed.

Most of the rest of the party caught up to Aefir and they killed the troll at the doorway. In the process discovered that there were a whole lot of trolls in the room, including one that was about 12 feet tall that seemed to be their leader.
