Session 60 - Trolls, Demons and Return to Tegel Village

The party makes a deal with a Troll Warlord, fights more demons and returns to Tegel Village with a story to tell.

This write up is based on our Sunday, December 7, 2025 session. Written by our scribe Carl, with edits and additions by myself. Since we are scattered around the country, we use Discord for voice communications and the Roll20 online tabletop to connect with each other.

Demons....Trolls....at least it's not snakes.

When the fog of absence disappeared, I saw that we had put down a LOT of demons and were now engaged with trolls.  Must be Tuesday.

Up front, the Troll Warlord asked Aefir who we are and what we want. Maybe we could just talk and find out something.  We came down here to find the head priest, not to kill trolls.

He agreed to parlay when Shadow suggested it. The Troll Warlord was frustrated with Sarthoggus. He said that his band had been offered a position in an army, but had been stuck in this room for three weeks being harassed by demons.

Shadow suggested that we remove Sarthoggus and the trolls would own the tunnel area completely.

The Troll Warlord agreed for himself and his troop... we shall see how long it lasts.

Yay Shadow, talk trumps fighting any day at all.

The north passage led to demons, south passage up to the temple. No clue as to where Sarthoggus is at the moment.

Up toward the demons, and back into battle.  Demons, demons, bah!

This set of demons had wings and were sitting behind desks. They were much more humanoid, and may be the ones in charge. Cut off the head... unless two will take its place (That would suck for us).

One of the Demons shot a lightning bolt at the group, and Aefir's aura of protection was a key protection.  Reebo chuckled at it as he evaded. Bahahahaha!

Since the demons were not lured into charging, Aefir charged at them. Us coming out of a hallway is just the opposite of what we want, time to spread out some and engage these beasts.

Nattie could hear, off to the west, a cry of pain and some cursing in some sort of a demonic voice.

Perhaps one of the demons went for reinforcements and was disappointed.

As Nattie moved up the tunnel, she urged the trolls to hit the demons, but to watch out for Paraselene's area of  "Damage all the stuff that is not us" spirit guardians.

After a while, quite a while, the demons were returned to wherever...

The trolls had gone around the other passage and killed one of the demons too, but knew enough about life to not walk into the spirit guardians.

There were a lot of skulls on the wall, several races, some of them bloody. Maps too, with attack locations marked on some.

Vials, maps, books were among the 'lewt' in the room. We took things that would help show the town what had been occurring.

We bought about 100 pounds of books from the trolls.

We had a discussion of resting here in a Leomund's Hut or going back to town to rest.  Lenrall pointed out that the young priests and the prisoners would probably be killed if we did either one, so the discussion went toward going up to the temple but not entering until morning (the guardian statues would not be active), and dealing with whatever opposition we met.

We negotiated hiring some of the trolls with the Troll Warlord and eventually reached a price he would agree to, 400 gp. The trolls would fight the statues, and whatever else we find, if needed.

Gathering up the prisoners, we headed up to the temple. There were still many prisoners being kept as slaves on the lower level, but you can't do everything for everyone.  We are hoping for a lynch mob of citizens coming toward the temple really soon.

Right at one of the illusionary walls, we ran into a couple of demons that had found the Collector missing (disposal chutes will do that). We met up and nature took its course.

The trolls fought the statues as we yelled for the relatively innocent acolytes, and got everyone out.

We went out the door to the clear clean night air. One mercenary we left tied up was still tied up - walk with us or die immediately. The others got the same offer. All went with us to town, the better to explain what is what.

We got back to town as the sun started to rise and wake people up to tell them the status.

Our first stop was the Mayor's house. His guards opened the door, and we filled them in. The mercenaries and the questionable priest from the jail were turned over to the mayor.

He sent for the sheriff and city guard.

As the town woke up, we told the tale and turned over the maps and information we had recovered.

We went back to town and let the prisoners do 99% of the persuading that we are good folk and Tsathoggus is NOT.

Mayor Ternelmor told Captain Maghoula to send the guard to guard the temple door, wile we went to rest and prepare to hit them again tomorrow, rested and ready.
