Session 15: After the Storm

The Adventurers return to Tegel Village to rest and sell loot.  Afterwards they return to the Manor, climbing in through the window they left by to continue where they left off.

The text was written up by Carl with a few edits by myself. It is based on our
Sunday, December 4, 2021 session. Thanks to Jimmy for taking the screen shots on roll20.

Continued from: A Green Slime, More Animated Cutlery and a Vampire.

Location:  Outside Tegel Manor, on the road back to the village.

Monday, April 6th, 4433, mid-afternoon.

Slogging through the rain, we were just off of an encounter with some kind of vampire, and were talking about how for real how much freakin' healing we can put together if we need.

Natalie shouts, "BUT DON'T GET OVERCONFIDENT ABOUT THAT !" and there was the crash of thunder.

We were soaking wet from the thunderstorm as we made our way to a sheltered area to rest. We were pretty depleted after the last fight or two.

The wooded area we sheltered in the last time we needed a break looked pretty good, but we were also pretty close to town.  Some spirited discussion ensued, and back to town we went, thinking of dinner and bed instead of a soggy camp.

We made it back without trouble from the Goblins or anything else.

At the boarding house before dinnertime, we gaggled to look at our loot and cast detect magic on it all.

We heard a rumor  - The lawyer and Sir Runic are upset that when we came into town yesterday and we didn't talk with either of them.

Reebo sold off some of the loot, things that we were pretty sure the vampire was NOT talking about when she said she wanted Reebo to drop his pack.

Shadow went to talk with the whiners. He talked about the vampire and the werewolves and the basics of what we have done so far.  Sir Runic recognized his great aunt (vampire) and he was really happy she was really dead.  He asked that we take out the werewolves too.

Talking with folks, Natalie heard that,  "Ternelmor has been known to bribe bandits and pirates to leave the village alone." Ternlemor is the mayor of Tegel Village. It seems wiser than trying to fight them off.

Reebo made a closer examination of the jewelry we found, but nothing special about any of it. Gold got split out to folks. Most of the party went to Halaf Fec's and bought stuff that they needed.

An uneventful and restful night passed for us.

April 7th:
We had breakfast before heading back out into the cold weather. Luckily, the rain had stopped.

Just a little bit outside the manor, we encountered Baladar the Ranger again.

There were greetings all around, and he was happy to see we are all still alive.

Arkhelm asked him about taking a shortcut south of the forest by the river and he sad there was a marsh there that was the home of The Dearth Monster of Derfingel Marsh, a terrifying beast.

Asked what it was, he said that some people think it is a dragon, but he was not so sure and does not intend to find out.

South of that, you get into the territory around the Monastery of Garm, which is patrolled by wolves.

He had nothing else to report in the area, and we went on our separate ways.

Back at the Manor, front door or window for entry?

We decided to climb through the window to the kitchen area where we had fought the Vampire. To the east side was one of the many doors we had not checked out yet.

Listening, we heard maybe some snoring or mumbling?

Opening the door, we saw a long table with several ghostly figures that quickly faded away. There was an old man, seemingly asleep, at the head (or foot, we cannot be sure) of the table.  We did our best to not disturb him. A painting of a distinguished gentleman adorned the north wall. On the table was tarnished silverware, cracked stuff and basically junk. Reebo checked out the old man for possible pickpocketing, but Reebo noticed he was slightly transparent and changed his mind at the last minute.

Aefir used his Divine Sense ability and sensed evil undead, and challenged the old man to 'begone from this world'.

Sigh... The undead attacked Aefir. The fight did not last a long time, and went our way as we overwhelmed him.

One of the many rat tunnels was in a corner. We moved on.

A painting on the south wall offered Reebo a riddle contest. Reebo ignored it, having previously learned his lesson.

Out into a hallway, we could hear a mumbling sound a ways off and saw more doors.

Behind the first one, Reebo found a trapped chest, but used his mage hand spell to set the trap off. He then opened the chest and found a LOT of copper pieces and some silver/gold as well and an opal necklace. Reebo got the necklace and such gold and silver as he could sort out, leaving the copper behind.

A young woman appeared in a corner of the room, screamed, and disappeared.

A closet held clothing and bedding, all nicely folded.

We found More doors, some bricked up. One room had a lot of empty wine bottles and a fireplace that did not give off any heat. A wine cellar? Reebo took one wine bottle that was still full.

Behind the next door, we found a statue that sat in the middle of the room, there was no identification to be seen.

We could hear footsteps to the south at times, but saw noone.... yet.

We entered a room with a bunch of stirges asleep (it seemed) on the rafters. There were rose petals on a bed, but no smell came from them. Several books sat on a table against the north wall. One book was covered with mushrooms and was unreadable. The two other books were in better shape. One was a thesis on wild things and one was about noble adventures. Reebo took the noble adventures book.

Natalie, still in the statue room, had been watching Reebo packing the book through the door, when the sound of footsteps behind her changed from feet on stone to feet on wood. She turned to find a skeleton advancing toward her. After a short battle, it crumbled to dust.

Back in the mushroom book room there was a jeweled sword hanging on a wall. Syndra cast detect magic, but only the rose petals shone with the magic light. The sword was just a sword, just highly decorative. A Rump family banner was rolled up on a chest.

Aefir took the bedspread to wrap up the jeweled sword, and the rose petals crumbled to dust and floated in a cloud over the bed. Aefir inhaled a little and fell to the floor with a clang of armor. The stirges woke up and went for Aefir... a couple of them fell asleep also, but a couple got at him through gaps in his armor.

Reebo cast a sleep spell at the stirges... it worked well last time, worked well this time too. Down the little buggers went.

We woke up Aefir and moved on, through previously traveled spaces.  Back to the singing we heard before,  and now heard a loud growling from the south.

Though an open doorway we could see a group of zombies that were singing a drinking song and bashing a giant rat. The room was a large hall. There was a teddy bear sitting in one of the chairs.

As we moved in to deal with the zombies, a swarm of spiders dropped off the ceiling at Aefir and Shadow. Torch to the webs and let the fires go where they may! Syndra cast a gust of wind to blow the spiders toward the zombies....clever girl.

Shadow lit a flask of oil and tossed it, getting some spiders being blown along by the gust of wind spell, getting more spiders as it went.
