Session 20: More Exploration
The Adventurers continue their exploration of the manor.

Continued from: A Purple Worm and Count Radu Rumpula
Location: Inside Tegel Manor.
Fresh off a dramatic fight with yet another vampire; the husband, as it turned out, of the lady vamp we had killed some days back. Count Radu Rumpula, whom Paraselene considers an honorable man and a friend of the party. Sigh...
Aefir swung at the cloud of mist that was most recently the Count, and even though he felt like the blows hit, the Count went through the stove up the chimney. We regrouped, trying to decide how best to deal with Paraselene.
We decided to turn her loose since the Count was no longer around. We would keep an eye on her in case he came back.
Back to the Purple Worm room to finish up the full search. It had begun to rot and stunk something awful. Going out the east door, we found a small room that looked like storage. Some linens. More closet-like rooms were beyond, and in one we found a tube that might hold a long fishing pole.
Reebo checked out the case and carefully opened it. The contents did appear to be a rod and reel, but were a bit outsized for that. Looking at it laid out on the floor, no one had any specific idea. We put it back in the tube. Natalie's put it on her back. Detect and identify would follow sometime in the future.
The next door opened onto a hallway, with a door north looking like it would open onto the hallway from which we entered the purple worm room. Reebo unlocked that door, just in case we need to use it in a hurry.
More and more doors, two in a T at the south of the short hallway. Aefir checked out the northern room. Another closet. Closets on top of closets, lots of ruined linens.
Reebo could hear footsteps behind the southern doors, perhaps running away...
The east door opened to a couple feet of moldy, stinky detritus, a trash pile. Aefir found a door to the south, that opened onto a bloody room. It looked like fresh blood. A broom flew across the room and flailed at Aefir. Aefir swung back at it, and it fell to the floor.
From there to the west, another locked door. Reebo went to work on it and suddenly it was not locked.
Another room, a bedroom. A giant shrew was on the far side as we entered. A pair of shiny black boots, moving and trying to get away from the shrew. We attacked the shrew from range (mostly) to save the boots. Dead shrew, happy boots.
Syndra went for the boots. The boots resisted, tried to get away.
Aefir took a moment to use his Divine Sense. The boots and the fishing rod were not evil, but a scimitar on the wall radiated like a beacon. A box at the end of the bed beckoned us to investigate. Personal items, a sewing kit with a scorpion tail needle for thick thread.
The boots followed party members around. No boot response to talking, strangely.
Reebo used Mage Hand to get the scimitar on the bed and we wrapped it up in the blanket. Aefir carried it.
Off to the east, we opened a door to a north/south hallway, and heard the chattering of goblins off a ways. Down the corridor we found a goblin laying on the floor, right where we know the trap door was. The boots followed along.
The Goblin was on the board that we put over the pit trap, it was trying to help some others out of the trap. We killed it, and went for the others.
Reebo went down into the pit to loot the bodies.
He found a small pouch containing 10 metal rings. It looks like it was intended for fishing poles. (They are prized by bandits (and goblins) to fashion rope traps). 29 sp, 11 gp, a blood sausage, a turnip, a patch of chain mail, 7 rusted nails, a bottle cork, a book.
The book was: "My Volume of Rituals and More' and it was a spell book. Spells: Alarm, Burning Hands, Charm Person, Chromatic Orb, Color Spray, Alter Self, Arcane Lock, Blindness / Deafness, Blur, Cloud of Daggers, Continual Flame, Animate Dead, Bestow Curse, Blink, Clairvoyance.
Arkhelm took the book and added it to his collection.
South a ways, we came to another bedroom, as smelly as usual. A skeleton with a heavily jeweled necklace was in the bed. Down a short passage was a room with a painting easel and a brush painting a picture of an old woman. Magic brush. We did not recognize the woman and we left it alone.
Thorough search of the bedroom revealed a mirror (we did NOT stare into it), a silver comb and a small hand mirror. Using Mage Hand, Reebo got the necklace. Surprisingly, the skeleton stayed there and did not attack us.
South to another room with a really creaky door. The east door was covered with eyeballs, ten pairs. Twenty eyes followed our every move as we explored the room.
Nothing of note in that room, but as we left Reebo heard something to the south.
From down the hall, an arrow came at Aefir. It was a skeleton. We put the skeleton down quickly.
On the east side of the hall, we opened to a bedroom with an unstrung harp. Large writing desk, bedroom stuff. When Reebo touched the desk, it flipped upside down and slammed into the wall. As Reebo checked out more of the room, Natalie looked at the desk. A wight came out to play....Sigh....
The wight RAPIDLY went down. Looking at the desk, 17 sp, a pouch of glass marbles, Forge Mark Stamps: a set of stamps for use by smiths.
Doors to the north and south opened onto hallways.That left one door that we felt would open onto another room. Opening it, we saw a long crack running east/west across the room. Aefir entered, and the floor slanted under him. He leaped back just in time to avoid a trap. Bugger that, we went back out to the north.
Continuing our exploration, we opened onto another bedroom. Scenes of battle adorned the walls. Dresser in the room, and the room was pretty cold. Rusty plate armor on a stand. Yet another rat hole was on the west side of the room.
As Reebo went to check out the armor, it started to move. Ominous. A big rat crawled out of the armor as we checked out the rest of the room. It ran for the rat hole, but did not get far. Nothing behind the big picture. Great axe, in good shape, under the bed.
The room was freezing cold. Staying in the room a while appeared to be damaging, so we went back out to the hallway before we got frost bitten. Reebo did get some frost burns, but Shadow found something in his healers' kit that helped.
South a bit, to a room that stank of cat, and had lots of scratches on a door. A writing desk, with 4 glass jars. One had an eye that knocked on the glass and looked like it was trying to get our attention. We found a round tin containing a pink amulet showing a small dog. A large basket that may have been a cat bed.

To the south from there Reebo could hear some movement. Bugbears! Down in one.
We found two deer head trophies, 4 dead giant ants, and a set of two ivory dice, 5 crossbow quarrels, a chunk of what might be human meat, a flask of water, 10 EP, 9 GP.
