Session 24: Back to the Armory and a Road Trip

The Adventurers meet a Bard named Bennedar and decide to travel to the City State of the Invincible Overlord to sell the looted armor that they could not sell in Tegal Village. They find complications along the way.

Written by our scribe Carl with a few edits by myself. It is based on our Sunday, September 4, 2022 session. Jimmy took the screen shots on Roll20.

Location: Tegel Village

Last night we met a bard, Bennedar.  Suspicious character, but just the right amount. He had just come from Modron with an unlikely tale about helping an Ogre get his cave back from a group of Kobolds. He came in with a caravan and had always wanted to visit the infamous Tegel Manor.

Since he knows the way to Modron and wanted to travel some more, we let him join up with us (at least for now).

We had left some relatively valuable armor in the manor. Since it is marked with the Rump family crest, selling it in Tegel village was unwise (also they probably did not have enough money to buy it). We might be looting the place as we clean it out, but there was no need to advertise the fact.

Bennedar told us that due to the quality of the roads it was about as fast walking to the Modron as it would be riding, but Reebo wanted horses for pack animals. Shopping in Tegel Village was limited, but we negotiated two pack horses to carry stuff from Marash-ar's Fine Horses. Off to Tegel Manor for a load of loot.

We passed  Derfingel Marsh on the way to the manor and we spotted a giant frog. While we were looking at the frog, a bunch of stirges flew out of the trees. The frog looked at the stirges, the stirges looked at us and the horses, and battle commenced. Arrows, spells flew as we shouted, "Protect the horses."

When we got to the Manor we looked for a secret door we had found earlier, in the back. Aefir was sure he remembered, but it took a while to find.  We had seen it open, but noone could figure out how to open it. Fortunately, there was a window we could climb through, going into the first room on our agenda to visit.

Sadly, the window was latched on the inside. Fortunately, it was no problem for Reebo to slip the latch and crawl inside after being lifted up by Shadow.

Natalie stayed outside to watch the horses. Beneddar got to see the inside of the Manor for the first time. His first surprise view was a plough under a bed... Why? For dust bunnies???

The plough had an agate blade, likely worth a goodly amount. After verifying it was still there we left it for later, and headed for the armory.

The armory still has the five suits of armor and some other stuff. We packed everything that would fit in boxes we found in the manor, and carried them outside. By the time we were done, the room was completely empty except for a few weapon racks and tables.

Then to the plough, with the expectation that there would be a trap associated with it.

No trap, but it was really heavy. Loaded the horses and off we went. Quite surprising, all things considered.

Now on toward Modron.  Past a keep under slow construction, and on to glory. Slightly overgrown, and we were the only travelers on the path.

Just before dark we came to nice campsite, looking down onto a river and we had a peaceful night.  With the dawn, we were up and loading. Clouds moving in from the coast promised cool weather for us, and wind probable.

About two hours after breakfast, we spotted a dire tiger in the trees, and unlike the frog this creature was really interested in the horses. Also in the people. It charged us and hit the first thing in its path. That was Natalie, and the attack ripped her up badly...

While she was ready to run away, the cursed Sword of Vengeance would not let Natalie back away from the fight once the Tiger had drawn blood.

The fight continues, as Reebo made an illusion of an elephant and the trumpeting sound of one. The tiger was giving the elephant the gimlet eye as the we fought on.
