Session 66 - The Battle for the Temple of Thor

The party fights Sarthoggus, once more, this time for good.

This write up is based on our Sunday, June 7, 2026 session. Written by our scribe Carl, with edits
and additions by myself. Since we are scattered around the country, we use Discord for voice communications and the Roll20 online tabletop to connect with each other.

We were in town, early morning.  Nice to be above ground for a while.

One of the Thor acolytes came around, waking us up with the news that the Temple of Thor was under attack....sigh.

Taking the time to armor up was definitely worth it for those of us that wear armor

If it isn't one thing it's another... Temples, why always temples?

There were guards dead in the street.  Some non guards too.

The Temple of Thor doors were closed and locked.  Arkhelm took care of that with a KNOCK spell, Shadow, who was standing next to the door heard a bar behind the door clatter to the floor.

ARGH!!!! Sarthogus was inside, looking rested and ready.  So much for leaving anyone alive, even if we think he was a good guy who was taken over by a bad force.

It turns out his remaining minions (mostly Tsathar and a handfull of bullywugs) from the temple had come to rescue him. It was almost like we never left the Temple of Frigga, but at least we have good air for this fight.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing again, so into the fray for sure.

We had a big fight at the door to the temple, with spells and weapons on each side.

Gotta admit we did not move forward well enough initially. Aefir called for the folks outside the temple to move in, but many did not hear him because of an area of Silence that some (*$%) cleric type had cast.

Not quite the same battle as before... Sarthoggus got Aefir with a Power Word Kill.... Sarthogus had tried it underground but Aefir had enough hit points to ignore it then.  But that was then and this is now.

At some point in the fight, a moss and gunk covered woman appeared.  This was Arnthora, priestess of the temple, who had been banished by Sarthogus to some swampy domain. Sarthogus' concentration failed at some point, and she was back and she was happy to join the fray. As the fight went on she got near Nattie and said "get me to the altar."

The altar bound journey began, fighting as needed. With several of them still up and gaggled around us, that was not gonna be a quick walk.

When we got to the altar, Arnthora hit the altar with her hammer and started a ritual that caused the shields on the walls to clang and resound as if beaten by invisible sword hilts, granting a blessing to all of the good guys.

Sarthoggus went down shortly after the noise started, simplifying the journey but not making it trivial.  We had hoped to get the evil out of Sarthoggus, but maybe best just let dying priests die.

With Sarthoggus going down, the minions tried to flee.  Out the doors and down the streets some of them went.

As the minions fled, Amthora cast Revivify on Aefir.  In time to get him back, with lessons learned for all of us.

The escaping minions were taken down by the town guard, who finally arrived with Mordacity Maghoula in the lead.

Afterwards, We all got healed and had a nice relaxing day and did some shopping as it was Market Day in Tegel Village that day.

We made sure we have some diamonds suitable for casting Revivify along with us from now on.

TO BE CONTINUED.
