Session 12: A Wraith, Werewolves, Skeletons and Stirges.

The Adventurers fight the Wraith they encountered in the previous session and make some uneasy allies before returning to the first floor.

The text was written up by Carl with a few edits by myself and is based on our
Sunday, September 5th 2021 session. Thanks to Jimmy for taking the screen shots on roll20.

We prepared ourselves, expecting a Wraith to come around the corner any time soon.  Sigh, we were doing so well.

A grinning Wraith, of all things. We hopped to wipe that smile off its face ASAP.

As it entered the room, Syndra could hear a woman's voice down the hall saying, "Stay here, keep the door closed" to someone.

Battle ensued, mostly ranged. Aefir, on the other hand, felt the need to get up close and personal. Out of the corner of his eye, Aefir noticed a woman in the hallway approaching the room.

Later we learned her name was Shaeanah. She entered the room from the hallway. She was wearing what looked like a nightgown. We noticed that she had unusually big canines, and unusually bushy eyebrows. She shouted,  "STOP fighting at once, this is our home!"

The Wraith replied in a low voice, almost a whisper,  "I go where I want. I kill who I want".

Shea replied, There is an agreement."

The Wraith said, "Not with me' and took a swing at her.

Upon being hit, the woman got nearly 2 feet taller and sprouted lots of hair, and claws. She looked like a werewolf.

With a concerted, and more coordinated than usual attack, the wraith went down.

After the fight, as we spoke with the woman, we heard more footsteps out in the hallway. She returned to human form, and told us that we should leave her home. Two more werewolves entered and stood by her.

She said their clan has an agreement to stay here, and told us her name and that her 'rent' was paid in keeping random monsters out of the place.

She introduced the other two werewolves as Glenn Dhooghan and Ghabhan Khargeel.

She suggested that we leave by the way we entered - she wrinkled here nose, "...by the rat tunnel".

We agreed to leave, having learned that the second floor southwest was their territory and known as "Wolve's Run".

She said that their pack shared the floor with a librarian and there was nothing for us to fight in the area except for them. After being questioned by Shadow Walker, she did admit that there were two areas that they had not been in. Shadow talked her in to letting us try to get in.

We checked out the door that the werewolves had not gone in, and Reebo picked the lock quickly. Opening the door, we found a room with drapes and a crystal ball.  Reebo said he had been here before, when he climbed up a fireplace chimney from the lower level.

A disembodied woman's head was in the crystal ball, a small box on the mantle, and dark drapes covering all of the walls. The head looked around at us. Reebo checked out the box, looking for traps.  He recognized it as a "Deck of Many Things".  He was not sure which version, he said that they all work basically the same.

Reebo put the box in a pouch. Then he talked to the head. "I am Madam Olga, and I know all. Who are you?" Reebo told her that if we have any questions we will come back.

Reebo looked behind the curtains/drapes. A Wight was there to greet him. More battle ensued. Undead are troublesome. Paraselene used her ability to turn it and told us all to stop attacking.

Reebo, in the heat of battle, needed a little reminding. The Wight retreated, shoving Aefir out of the way and hid behind a curtain, having no place else to go.

We left the room and locked the door.

There was a room with a figurehead of a ship. An open chest on a table, with silver chains and what appeared to be a necklace.  Cargo nets up in the ceiling were rigged to fall on people.  Reebo tried to sneak in to get the loot, and one of the werewolves pointed out that it was THEIR stuff, and to leave it alone.  The werewolves described the areas connecting to the ship room and pointed out that the rat tunnel was the other way.

Back to the rat tunnels, looking down to the first floor.  We dropped through.

Bedroom, dresser with holes going up and down behind it. Window looking out to east. We followed hallways for a while, no doors in sight. There was a faint whistling sound at times.

We came to a mess hall. There was a giant rat along with the 6 skeletons sitting at a table. The rat saw us and started running away. The skeletons asked us to join them for lunch, but being who we are we decided to destroy them instead.

Eventually we did them in, and started to take a half hour meditation break for Shadow, while everyone else searched the room.

We could hear some buzzing-ish noises from a corner closet. Then a bunch of Stirges came swarming out and flew toward us.

Ranged, even magic combat, started happening. Reebo put most of them down with a sleep spell.  Being really low on hit points,  He succumbed his own spell and dropped to the floor.

Natalie, not being sure exactly what happened, went to check on Reebo. She pulled a Stirge off of him and when it woke up in her hands she squeezed it until its guts oozed out onto the floor.

The rest of the sleeping Stirges were stabbed or stomped before they woke up from Reebo's spell.
