Session 13: A Pit Trap, A Lurker Above, The Bakery and The Kitchen
The Adventurers deal with a pit trap, a haunted bakery and kitchen to the sound of music.
The
text was written up by Carl with a few edits by myself. It is based on our Sunday, October 3rd 2021 session. Thanks to Jimmy

Continued from: A Wraith, Werewolves, Skeletons and Stirges.
Location: Inside Tegel Manor, in the mess hall.
We were in a mess hall sorta place, filled with junk and a dead halfling. Halfling stew could work, no maybe not, he had been dead a long time.
It was about noon, and lunch sounded good.
As we finished up our lunch, we all heard a door slam, and Arkelm told us he heard some whispering outside the room. Reebo went to listen closely by the door, and peeked under it. He could see a corridor, but nothing that might have been whispering. The whispers faded off to the north as he listened.
Shadow Walker and Reebo went exploring the hallways while everyone else cleaned up after lunch and Aefir cleaned the last of the dead stirge off of his armor. Shadow found a collapsing floor trap, but was able to leap across the gap rather than fall into the pit. On the other side could hear something panting around the corner. Nothing in sight, but the whistling sound coming from the west corridor grew louder.
Shadow had a slight slip crossing the pit trap, but made his way back across with a helping hand from Paraselene.
Reebo unlocked a door to the north, and Aefir opened it. Another bedroom, with another rat tunnel. Reebo opened a trunk - men's clothing, boots. The whistling changed some, and the pit trap closed up with a slam. A desk in the room had just stuff.
A door to the west had a little bit of light coming under the opening. Locked, no vibrations, maybe the sound of a slight breeze. Reebo unlocked it and Aefir led the way in.
Storage area with some boxes and a window with a curtain that was moving a little. Reebo checked the curtain and found it was a Lurker Above. Of all things, another trap... The Lurker landed on Reebo. Syndra gave the alarm.
Reebo found a chest with a false bottom, and a thieve's book in the bottom. He kept the book but put the false bottom back in place. We returned to the hallway and Shadow activated the floor trap again. Shadow hammered a piton on each side of the trap and a rope between. Arkelm and Natalie got a shelf from the mess hall and put it across the pit trap as a bridge as well.
While all that was happening the pit trap closed again with a slam.
As Aefir walked across the shelf, he could hear some breathing southward. Reebo, a little ahead, saw some apparition in the distance. They retreated, and we all moved northward. A stairway went down at the end of a hallway to the east, we did NOT follow it.
Northward we came to a 'new' door. There was the sound of footsteps to the north, and an open archway. A similar archway to the west had been bricked up.
The new door opened onto a hallway. We entered, and as Paraselene closed the door behind us we could hear the footsteps returning from the north.
There were some doorways in the hall, and we went through the first one to the south, it wasn't locked and lead into a bakery.
There was maybe a wind sound, perhaps something growling from one of the ovens.
On the table was an upturned pot weighted down with heavy stones. Hissing breathing was audible, coming from inside the pot.
The door to the north opened and in came a Specter of a grossly overweight monk. He dissed Paraselene and her god with several obscene remarks right away. Para could recognize him as a monk of Tsathoggus, the frog god. We remembered that the temple on the hill dedicated to Frigga was built over a destroyed one to Tsathoggus.
We attacked, he made an obscene remark and disappeared.
Suddenly the door of the oven next to Shadow opened, and out popped a Giant Stag Beetle, growling and clacking its mandibles. Shadow engaged it. Everyone else either shot it with arrows or cast spells on it, and it didn't last long.
Para opened (carefully) the hissing pot, and a Flying Skull came out, cackling like a maniac. It radiated sparks, got hit once and flew into the open oven and up one of the chimneys. We closed the oven door behind it.
Aefir opened the door to the north, and though the hallway looked empty he could hear some singing to the west
In the corridor, there was a door that had a whirring sound (something like fan blades) behind it, and a door with no sounds at all. Neither was locked.
We opened the first door and saw plates and jars floating around the room, with pans in a basin of filthy water. When Aefir stepped in to the room, the crockery flew at him. For as fast as we took out the Spectre, the plates should have been a one course and done. NOT... The little suckers just kept going.
Syndra cast a wind spell and slammed about half of them against the back wall.
As the fight went on, and Nattie and Arkelm took turns on watch in the hall, the singing sound passed by. Nothing visible or physical, just the singing. It seemed to move up and down the hallway, a male singing voice with no perceivable source, singing about sword fighting.
Eventually all but one of the plates went down and to pieces.
Aefir lifted up the table and it caught in Syndra's wind, pinning the last plate against the back wall.
