Session 28: The City State of the Invincible Overlord
The Adventurers sell their loot in the City of Modron then take a ship to The City State of the Invincible Warlord and go shopping.
Written by our scribe Carl with a few additions from myself. It is based on our Sunday, March 5, 2023 session.
Continued from: Something Dark Awakens
Location: In the City of Modron.
In Modron, such shopping as we could do (including orders to be picked up later) was done and we were ready to ship out the next day. To sail away into the sunrise, bound for the City of the Invincible Overlord.

With the sun well up in the sky, horses boarded for our return, we boarded the ship to take us onward. With the tide, off we went.
The journey was uneventful as the Fair Kherriann sailed south down the Estuary of Roglaroon.
We docked for the night after an uneventful day.

Next afternoon, unusually hot for the season, we were making progress between a forest and a swamp. As the City State came in view, it was humunguously big!! Also horribly smelly.
Late afternoon
We left the ship for the City. One guard recommended the Moongate Tavern for our lodging.
We passed the money changer, since we had gotten enough local currency in Modron. Reebo was in disguise, given his past life here.
Coming up to a intersection just past the marine barracks, and next to a net shop, a bunch of constables approached us. It was time for us to do our service to the Overlord.... The next day we were to appear at the east end of the city at the barracks in East Wall Enclave.
We could spend the day raking. Drafted, what next???? Probably spiders...
Shadow played the Noble Card, trying to get us out of it. Worked with pirates long ago, worth a try. Song and dance about a mission, and we were offered the option of paying 7GP as a buyout. Excellent and well done, Shadow!
We looked in on the Mermaid Tavern, seeing what our options were for rooms as we wandered about the city.
Reebo went in, and it was not as nice or expensive as the Sea Nymph inn we had looked at earlier. He noticed a Thieve's Guild mark next to the door - "Go Away, This Place is Taken". Reebo marked that we were not here to interfere, and we checked in for a week.
Our next stop was a pet shop, since one of the main reasons for visiting was that Reebo wanted to get a Mastiff for help and protection in combat situations.
In the pet shop, they had three Mastiffs. Fairly young, none trained. The owner recommended the Barbarian Shop for custom armor for the dog.
Good night at the Mermaid Tavern, quiet and restful. Talking with folks some we heard some local gossip and discussion of the city and events.
"Asilotor the Saint is forming an expedition to rescue the female survivors of an orc raid on a caravan 40 miles to the south." --- we asked around more and it looked like a false rumor.

Our first full day in the City started with a stroll to the Barbarian shop for Mastiff armor. We passed by a small armorer shop, and found they masterwork armor. No leather here, but they recommended the same place for the dog.
Interesting town, definitely not lawful good. Tons of religions spread out, but seems that they found a way to get along enough.
Another Militia group approached us, asked us some questions, but no drafting today.
A noble asked us directions, and Shadow spoke with him. He was looking for the seventh company barracks. We had no clue.
We explored the city and we picked up some items we wanted.
On Haggle Street during the walkabout, some of us got upset and started arguing with each other. Those not arguing also noticed that there were other groups arguing. Eventually everyone settled down... not sure if we were hit with a spell or just not having hit anyone in a couple days.
Shopping continued, including conversion of some coin to gems for weight management.
Continued in Mugged on Ox-Cart Road.
