The 2nd Session: Lawyers, Zombies and Goblins

April 1, 4433  evening

In town, after a brief encounter with a press gang from some ship or the other.

Reebo, through 'contacts' learned that someone in this little burg claims to OWN Tegel Manor and all in it.  Soooooo, if we get treasure or stuff, we should not bring it back here to sell or deal with. A lawyer, of all things - Ep Stroten.  The innkeeper (Altharontha) told us the lawyer has some paperwork, but the manor is actually owned by Sir Runic the Rump.

There is a 'rumor' that Sir Runic wants the place cleared out.

Probably best to not talk a lot in town about what we plan to do either.

Syndra noticed an old friend in the inn's common room, Aefir the paladin. Aefir, in a clever move, joined us after introductions.

One last trip to the privy, and lights out. The inn was locked down REALLY well, two bars across each door and window.  Recently, stuff has wandered down from the manor, so people just stay inside after dark.

Last week a zombie wandered down, was feathered with arrows, and exploded. Arrows flew everywhere.

We retreated/retired to a more private area, one of our rented rooms, to discuss ownership and options and stuff and things.

Reebo talked about the lawyer. Says the person is a member of the Thieve's Guild, and had forged the documents he is using to claim the manor. Please do not talk about what we are planning, or any details. The lawyer will want a cut, and probably has the local law on his payroll.

Nearest town is 50 miles away, but better to walk there to sell stuff than come back here.  And don't talk about what we plan to do.

Maybe we should talk to Sir Runic, get permission officially to go and do good stuff.

We decided that 'Lay Off' would be our call to stop, and the caller would later explain why they called it.

Runic has a house in town, and hangs out often at the Bark and Bite. But that is for tomorrow.

April 2, 4433
Next morning Syndra assisted with breakfast, and we got ready to face the day.

Paraselene went to the Temple of Thor to see what is what. Lots of hammering, a nice row of shields on the wall (during service it sounded like swords hammering on them).

Off to see Runic. He has had no luck selling the manor, says we can find some payoff when we go there, but has no money to pay us.  The place is cursed to one degree or another, and at least one of his relatives is a vampire. Rank Rumpula, his great aunt.

He gave us a brief description, but had nothing even resembling a map. Lots of his ancestors live (in the most undead sense of the word) there.

Other adventurers and groups have gone to clear the place, but none have ever returned.

We went next to Ep Stroden, who claims to own the place. He wants worthy hirelings to set things straight at the manor.  Show proof of undead elimination, he will pay a bounty.

He didn't have a map or any better description either.

Proceeding toward the manor, we came to a walled off area with a group of sheep buncned against the wall, as if trying to get away from something.

Shadow Walker saw some apparently injured people off away from the sheep. Turns out, they were Zombies.

Shadow Walker ran out to the front, to get in bow range. Aefir went forward too. Reebo cowered in the grass and complained that we were getting spread out.

The first zombie that was killed... EXPLODED with a strong acidic smell.  Aefir and Syndra were in melee, and both got hit.  Ranged all of a sudden looked better.

  Aefir undeterred, stayed with melee.

After they all exploded, we recovered such arrowheads as we could. The shafts were destroyed by the acidic explosions.

Arkelm could tell, from the smell, that these were manufactured zombies, or at least modified after zombification. An alchemist was involved.

A few of us could barely hear cheers coming from up ahead, perhaps on a hill. Guess we put on a good show.

Undaunted, we pressed on, stinky paladin and all.

We came to a building with two people standing in front. A temple of Frigga.

They told us the job guarding the temple was already filled. By them. They chuckled and said "You did well with four, but wait til you get ten at a time".

The temple was pretty run down, some of it bricked up, grass untended.

An acolyte came out and offered water to drink and for Aefir to cleanse his armor.

The guards were a little condescending to us, considering us kids out to play.  Bugger them all!!!

A ways further down the road, on the lookout since the grass was consistently a couple of feet high.
Shadow Walker had walked off the main path, strolling through the grass, and spotted four goblins a ways off.  The first two went down fast, but more came out (of a hole?)

Some of the goblins could really handle those bows.  Shadow Walker found out the hard way. Fortunately, we have healers among us, and Shadow could dodge in the future combat.

As Aefir moved up to engage, he noticed that yes there was a hole under the tree and the likely source of the goblins. Who knew how many we would have to deal with.

Arkelm noticed some more goblins on the other side of the road. Well, they had plenty of time to set things up.

We redirected our fire at the newly spotted goblins.
